According to The Guardian, Essex Police seized a Lamborghini Huracan worth potentially more than £200,000 in Southend on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports the supercar was being driven dangerously at speeds suspected to be more than twice the legal limit, marking one of the most prominent uses of the UK’s significantly strengthened antisocial driving legislation.
The vehicle was confiscated under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, which was strengthened earlier in 2026 to allow police to immediately seize a vehicle causing or likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to the public. Previously, officers could only issue a warning on a first offence, with seizure reserved for a repeat incident within 12 months. The updated framework now permits officers to stop and seize vehicles on the spot, and even enter premises using reasonable force if they believe a vehicle is being held there.
Essex Police noted that the targeted behaviours include wheelspins, burnouts, public drifting, residential racing and repeated engine revving designed to cause a nuisance. Autotrader estimates the Lamborghini Huracan’s total retail value at £238,195. The force said: “Antisocial driving can pose a danger to other people using the road and cause misery to residents. The safety of our communities will always be our priority.”
The Southend seizure follows broader enforcement trends: the Metropolitan Police last year seized 72 luxury cars worth more than £6 million in a crackdown on antisocial driving in London, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Bentleys.
