Oura: From A 6.09mm × 2.28mm Wedding-Band Form Factor To Blood Pressure Signals And Nighttime Breathing Disturbance Detection And A Confidential SEC IPO Filing One Week Before Launch
According to Bloomberg, CNBC, MacRumors and 9to5Mac, Oura Health Oy unveiled the Oura Ring 5 on Thursday, alongside its most consequential feature set yet. The ring is 40% smaller overall than its predecessor, measuring 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick compared to 7.99mm and 2.88mm on the previous model, while preserving roughly one-week battery life. The form factor now mirrors a traditional wedding band, addressing the biggest complaint about previous generations.
The headline software addition is Health Radar; a proactive monitoring layer that continuously detects shifts and patterns that may indicate cardiovascular strain via the new Blood Pressure Signals feature, plus nighttime breathing disturbance detection that the company says can flag warning signs of sleep apnea.
Both features will also be available to existing Generation 3 and 4 rings. The ring 5 ships June 4 at $399 for base finishes and $499 for premium, with an optional $99 portable charging case.
The bigger picture matters more. Last week, Oura confidentially filed a draft of its IPO prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Ring 5 launch is now the public-product hinge of that filing. Oura is positioning itself not as a wellness brand but as a diagnostic medical device company ahead of the listing.
