Nine-Time Le Mans Winner Tom Kristensen Drove the 987HP Hybrid Nuvolari Up the 1.86km Goodwood Hillclimb as Jaguar’s Camouflaged Type 01 EV Sedan Made Its First Public Dynamic Appearance
The Audi Nuvolari and a still-camouflaged Jaguar Type 01 tackled the famous Goodwood hillclimb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, with both cars arriving in 2027. Motor1.com
Driven up the 1.16-mile hillclimb by nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, the Nuvolari prototype marked the first time the hybrid supercar has been shown at speed in public.
The car is set in motion by a hybrid setup integrating a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that redlines at 10,000 rpm alongside three axial-flux electric motors, producing 987 horsepower and 728 pound-feet of torque, enabling a 0–60 mph time of just 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.
Audi UK managed to sell five units of the Nuvolari worth £500,000 ($670,000) each in just 24 hours of its private debut ahead of the F1 weekend in Monaco, with production limited to just 499 units.
The Jaguar Type 01, a still-camouflaged electric luxury sedan, also tackled the hill. A full reveal is planned for October in New York.
Kristensen said: “What impresses in the Nuvolari is the way all the systems work together from the new quattro drivetrain and vehicle dynamics to aerodynamics and the braking system.”
Online, however, the cars faced significant backlash for their unconventional designs. The Nuvolari is Audi’s first model to follow its revamped design philosophy, while the Jaguar hasn’t yet removed its camouflage.
The most memorable critique? “That Audi looks as if they took a Cybertruck and flattened it with a hammer.” The five buyers who paid £500,000 each in Monaco are presumably unbothered.
